Our motor and controller provide a combined efficiency of 84%. Subtract drive-train losses of 5.5% and accessories at 1.1% and you net 77.4%. Not too bad, but now we add back in power from the regenerative braking system every time you decelerate or go downhill, an average 15% return to the batteries. Now we have a phenomenal combined 92.4% total efficiency!
Is it possible to get over 100% efficiency? Yes, although this does not mean that your batteries don’t run down.
Our conversion averages 200 watt hours per mile, which at the electric rate of $.085/kwh in our area, is $0.017/mi.
This is the cost equivalent, if gas is $3.00/gal of 176 miles per gallon!
