Our conversion with the AGM batteries averages 200 watt hours per mile at an average speed of approximately 25 miles per hour. This is with the low rolling resistance tires which are a 10-30% improvement over most conventional tires. At this usage rate, the range with this battery pack is 35-45 miles. This is around town driving with a maximum speed around 45mph. More speed does use more energy so higher average speeds will result in less range. Maximum speed with this AGM 72V 140AH battery pack is about 60mph and the acceleration from a stop is comparable with a gas powered classic with 40-50 horsepower.
With the 72V 200AH lithium battery pack the range increases to 75-100 miles and acceleration improves markedly.
The 96V performance system results in a top speed over 80mph and increases the range to over 100 miles. The acceleration compares to a gas engine of 90 horsepower.
About Range
One effect of the amazing efficiency of the NewLeafEV system is that changes we make in everything from tire pressure to driving habits makes much more difference than in a gas guzzler. A change that in an ICE powered vehicle nets 2% in mileage, could result in a 25% improvement in your plug-in electric. So when we talk about how far you can drive in your electric car, keep in mind that the route you follow, the stops you make, the speed you drive and the terrain you encounter will make a difference in how far you can go. This is a result of your very efficient use of your total energy, and is part of an overall goal to use energy wisely.
